THINK IT NOT STRANGE

                           1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange. . . .

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THINK IT NOT STRANGE THAT GOD WANTS US TO: THINK BIG

1. Think Big About Prayer [Psalm 81:10, Ephesians 3:20

I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us

2. Think Big About Missions [mt. 28:18-20]

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway , even unto the end of the world. Amen.

3. Think Big About the second Coming of Christ [Matthew 24:44]

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

II. THINK IT NOT STRANGE THAT GOD WANTS US TO: THINK SCRIPTURALLY

1. About God [Acts 17:29]

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

2. About Man [1 Corinthians 4:6]

And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

3. About the Bible [1 Corinthians 14:37]

If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

III. THINK IT NOT STRANGE THAT GOD WANTS US TO: THINK SOBERLY, SERIOUSLY [1 Peter 1:13, 4:7, 5:8]

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1. About Trials/trouble [1 Peter 4:12-16]

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

2. About the Blessed Holy Spirit [1 Corinthians 2:13, 6:19]

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth ; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

3. About the Judgement to Come [Acts 17:2, 18:4, 18:19, 24:25]

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance , and judgment to come , Felix trembled , and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

HOW THINK YE?

Matthew 18:12 How think ye?

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THINK CLEARLY

1. Think Clearly about Yourselves [Matthew 3:9]

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Luke 13:4-5 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly , according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Galatians 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

2. Think Clearly about Christ [Matthew 22:42]

Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Matthew 9:4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

3. Think Clearly about God's Will [Matthew 21:28-31]

But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.  He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

II. THINK CLEAN

1. Think Clean About Your Mind [Philippians 4:8]

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

2. Think Clean About Your Body [Rm. 12:1-2, 1 Cor. 6:9-20, Job 31:1]

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

3. Think Clean About Your Spirit [1 Cor. 6: 20]

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

III. THINK COMPASSIONATELY

1. Think of the Worth of a Single Soul [Matthew 18:12]

How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

2. Think of the what God can do for every lost person [1 Cor. 6:9-11]

3. Think of what God can do for every Saved John 10:10]

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Did Jesus Say, "I Am God; Worship Me"?

When sharing the gospel with Muslims, it is not uncommon to hear the objection: "Where did Jesus say, 'I am God; worship me'?" This is because many Muslims have been trained (by Muslim apologists) to ask this question of Christians and demand that the answer must be in those exact words.

NEA Endorses Killing Unborn Children

The National Education Association (NEA), the largest teacher's union in the US, formally adopted a statement at its annual representative assembly last week that endorses abortion. It's tragically ironic that an organization that is supposed to support those who will teach the next generation endorses killing off the next generation before they are born!

John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

Let's be conscious today: "Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee." God has given "his angels charge over thee. . .to. . .bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone."
That is good! We got it made! - John R. Rice

You city slickers don't know but if you leave a barrel of rainwater out for awhile, mosquitoes breed in it and so you get wiggletails. The Christian life ought not have any wiggletails in it. We ought always be abounding in our Christian life. That means abound in love, abound in joy, abound in concern for souls. A dried-up kind of religion is not too happy. This neither cold nor hot, just lukewarm, half in and half out, good Lord and good Devil, milk and cider, is not the happy way. A Christian ought to have an abounding life. Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly." - John R. Rice

I'm sure glad that I am not looking forward to retirement. I'll tell you the truth.
After Winona Lake [Sword of the Lord Conference] we have a family reunion down at Chattanooga. I'm going to slip a dictation machine in and get some work done. Vacation is all right for a little time but for a whole week at a time, goodnight! I'll play some games and we'll talk and we may go to Lookout Mountain, but a Christian ought to have some work he loves to do and is glad to do. Happy is that Christian that gets his fun out of work. - John R. Rice

"The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds. . . ." Tell your wants to God-everything. If there is something that isn't right, you can have this agreement with the Lord: "Lord, this is what I want, but if this is not what is right, will You fix my wanter and I will try to want what You want." Then you can pray in the will of God and get an answer. - John R. Rice

A Christian's life ought to be centered, not on what I can do myself, but on what God will do for me. You fight and war, you work hard, you save, you worry, you fret. That is not the way to get along. "Ye have not, because ye ask not." A Christian ought to work hard, but he ought to work without fretting about circumstances and the outcome. - John R. Rice

"I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it."-Ps. 81:10
"Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it." The Lord is saying here, "I am the God who can do wonderful things." He said, "Remember how I brought the plagues on Pharaoh down in Egypt and turned the water of the Nile River to blood, and the plagues of frogs and flies? You remember the walking stick turned to a serpent? You remember the great darkness and the murrain of cattle, the hail that killed the animals and the crops, then the death of the firstborn?" He said, "I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt."
He said, "Remember how I opened the Red Sea with the walls of water on each side and you walked through dry-shod?" He said, "I am the God that gave you manna every day from Heaven for forty years and your garments didn't wax old, and your shoes didn't wear out, and your clothes grew with the folks those forty years." - John R. Rice

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.
According to this verse, God has more for us than we take. God has bigger plans for us than we make. God has more love for us than we know. God has more people for us to bless than we do. Oh, if we could know the breadth, the length, the width, the height of all things, and the love of God which passeth knowledge! He said He " is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think." Can you ask something big? God has something bigger than that. - John R. Rice
