LET US GO ON

HEBREWS 6:1-3

Pastor Rick Jackson

Paul was saying, "Don't stop at salvation...press for the mark... press on... LET US GO ON." The same thing Peter said when he said, "But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." The same thing Jesus did when he set His face as a flint toward Jerusalem. He told us in John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

I. LET US GO ON IN SPITE OF EVERY TRIAL

1. Consider the Normality of Trials [1 Peter 4:12]

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

2. Consider the Source of Trials [Job 1:9-2:10]

3. Consider the Satisfaction of Trials [1 Peter 1:7]

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
James 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy

We'll be tempted to quit because of trials but we should say, "LET US GO ON!"

II. LET US GO ON IN SPITE OF TEARS

1. Because of Enemies [Psalm 6:6-8]

I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears. Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies. Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.

2. Because of Lost Souls [Psalm 126:5-6]

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
Acts 20:31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

3. Because of Death [Isaiah 25:8]

He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces;
Rev. 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

4. Because of Sin [Jeremiah 13:17]

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lord's flock is carried away captive.
31:16 Thus saith the LORD; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.

5. Because of Heart Burden [Hebrews 5:7]

Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

We may well want to quit because of tears but we should say instead, "LET US GO ON!"

III. LET US GO ON IN SPITE OF TEMPTATIONS

1. By Being Rooted [Ephesians 3:15-21]

2. By Being Alert [1 Corinthians 10:12-13]

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

3. By Being Faithful [James 1:12]

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Did Meteors Trigger Noah's Flood?

Geologists are uncovering mounting evidence of asteroids and meteorites that struck the earth during the past. Are these extraterrestrial missiles somehow related to the initiation of the Flood?

Who Is in Your Potential Dating Pool?

That was the question asked in a recent study, and the choices listed included a variety of gender "identities," including cisgender woman, transgender man, and someone who is non-binary. Unsurprisingly, 87.5% of individuals only chose either cisgender man or cisgender woman (translation: man or woman!). And one of the study authors, writing for Psychology Today, is upset about these "societal prejudices."

JOHN R. RICE QUOTES OF THE WEEK

How many here have read the whole Bible through, every line of it, at least once? Let's see your hands. Well, that's most of us. Anybody who hasn't is still a baby Christian. - John R. Rice

Why wouldn't you like the Bible? You love to get a letter from friends and loved ones. Then why don't you like to read from God's Word what He has said to us? There must be something very wicked, tainted and fallen about our nature that makes it so we don't enjoy the Bible. - John R. Rice

A Christian ought to enjoy the Bible. - John R. Rice

Some people don't like me because of two things. One, I'm too strong on verbal inspiration. I believe God gave the very words. I don't have to go to some smart aleck to find out how they figured it out and copied it out of documents and by comparing Matthew, Mark and Luke, decide they copied it from one another. I just believe what the Bible says. "Every word. . .proceedeth out of the mouth of God." - John R. Rice

Then, some people don't like me because I love all Christians. I like them before they are baptized as well as after they are baptized. I am pleased a little better with them after they are baptized, but I love them before they are baptized, too. I'm for good Christians who don't understand everything. I'm for young converts, whether they know all the Bible yet or not. - John R. Rice

Why don't you just get to where you believe that whatever is in the Bible is wonderful and you are going to live by it the best you can, no matter whether everybody thinks you are a nut or not. - John R. Rice

In Springfield, Missouri I preached to a great crowd of young people on "Seek ye first the kingdom of God," and "Present your bodies a living sacrifice," and "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." A lovely girl and a student in the college came later and said, "Brother Rice, I am willing for the Lord to have His way about all but one thing. I would like to make my own decision about whom I marry."
I said, "Then you think you are really smarter than the Lord about this?" I said, "No marriage is likely to be a success unless it is guided by the Lord and has the Lord's blessing."
She went away crying. "I would like to decide that matter by myself."
But she came back to me later and said, "I have decided that the Lord loves me and He would know better in selecting somebody for me to love then if I chose." - John R. Rice

DO IT YOURSELF

ACTS 16:29-34

Pastor Rick Jackson

Here is a well-known and often misinterpreted passage of scripture. I once read an article which tried to use verse 33 to prove infant baptism was practiced by the early church. The article said something to the effect that, "Undoubtedly infants were in this household so they too must have been baptized- thus proving infant baptism."

Two things- first, have many households here today have infants in them? How many don't? Okay, so "undoubtedly" is off considerably. Secondly- how many households here have a pet of some kind? So we could better prove pet baptism than infant baptism from verse 33 using their logic.

There are certain things that nobody else can do for you but you. Nobody can drink to satisfy your thirst or eat to satisfy your hunger. No one can learn for you so that you can retain something in your memory. There are spiritual truths as well that fall into this category.

I. NOBODY ELSE CAN GET SAVED FOR YOU!

1. They All Heard the Gospel [v. 32]

Verse 31 has been falsely used to say that God promises if one person in a household gets saved that all the people in that household will definitely be saved. Granted the chances of the other members of the household go up tremendously having a saved person in their midst but a guarantee? Nay, nay.

2. They All Had to Believe [v. 31, 34]

3. They All Heralded Their Faith by Baptism [v. 33]

II. NOBODY ELSE CAN SURRENDER FOR YOU! [Rm. 12:1-2]

1. Your Body [v. 1]

2. Your Mind [v. 2, Colossians 2:8]

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

3. Your Will [v. 1-2, Jn. 7:14-18]

III. NOBODY ELSE CAN SACRIFICE FOR YOU! [Philippians 2:17]

1. The Sacrifice of Praise [Heb. 13:15]

2. The Sacrifice of Doing Good [Heb. 13:16]

3. The Sacrifice of Missions Support [Heb. 13:16, Phil. 4:13-18]

IF YOU AIN’T GOT TIME, MAKE TIME

Ephesians 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Colossians 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. WHAT DO I PRAY FOR?

1. Pray for Deliverance [Psalm 79:9, Matthew 6:13]

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

2. Pray for Direction [Ps. 5:2-3, 8; Acts 9:6]

Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. . . Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?

3. Pray for Dedication [

II. WHEN DO I NEED THE BIBLE?

1. In the Hour of Discouragement [2 Tm. 4:9-13]

Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. The cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.

2. In the Hour of Disappointment [2 Sam. 6, 1 Chronicles 15:1-2]
And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent. Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.

3. In the Hour of Temptation [Mt. 4, Luke 4, Psalm 119:11]

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

III. WHAT ABOUT CHURCH?

1. It Should be a Glad Time [Psalm 122:1]

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

2. It Should Be a Giving Time [1 Cor. 16:1-2, 2 Corinthians 9:7, Phil. 4:17]

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

3. It Should Be a Glory Time [1 Corinthians 10:31, Ephesians 3:21]

Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

IF YOU ARE TOO BUSY TO DO THESE THINGS, YOU ARE TOO BUSY!

AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT…

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR SALVATIONAL PROCRASTINATION

1. Condemned Already [John 3:18] …he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

2. Life is Fleeting [James 4:14] Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

3. Salvation is a Limited Time Offer [Hebrews 2:3, 9:27] How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

II. AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR SPIRTUAL STAGNATION

1. Prayerless & Powerless [Dan. 6:10, Lk. 18:1, Matthew 17:21, Matthew 26:41]
…he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God,
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

2. Ignorant & Unready [2 Timothy 2:15, 1 Peter 3:15]
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

3. Isolated & Indolent [Matthew 16:18, Hebrews 10:25, Psalm 122:1, Eph. 2:19-22]
I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

III. AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR SLACK SERVICE

1. Our Testimony Must Be Salty! [Matthew 5:13]
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

2. Our Light Must Shine! [Matthew 5:14, 16; Ephesians 5:8]
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

3. Our Voice Must Be Heard! [Acts 5:20]
Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

The Sexual Revolution's Next Battle

According to the sexual revolution, love has "no gender, race, or religion"—but does "love" have an age? Well, according to social media site Snapchat—it doesn't. At least, it didn't for two days. As part of their "Love Has No Labels" campaign during so-called "Pride Month" (June), Snapchat featured a series of filters, including one that read "love has no age." This last one was quickly pulled, however.

"Brainless Fungi" Extraordinarily Complex

When you think of fungi, you probably don't automatically think "smart"! But these incredible organisms are indeed "smart," in the sense that they are designed to do what they do, and what they do, they do well. The more we look at what God has made, the more obvious it is that we are without excuse if we refuse to acknowledge the Creator. And fungi are just one more example.
