IF JUDGMENT BEGIN...

(“IF” Series #2)

1 Peter 4:12-19

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE JUDGMENT OF SUFFERING [v. 12-16]

1. DON'T BE SURPRISED AT SUFFERING [v. 12]

2. LEARN TO EMBRACE CHRIST'S SUFFERING [v. 13-14]

Acts 5:40-41 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

3. DON'T FAIL TO UNDERSTAND ALL SUFFERING IS NOT THE SAME [v. 15-16]

II. THE JUDGMENT OF BELIEVERS [v. 17-19]

1. BELIEVERS ARE JUDGED SEPARATELY FROM UNBELIEVERS [v. 17, Rev. 20:4-6, 2 Cor. 5:10-11]

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

2. BELIEVERS JUDGMENT IS NOT BASED ON THEIR GOODNESS [v. 18, 1 Cor. 3:10-15]

According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

3. BELIEVERS CAN REST IN THE GOODNESS OF GOD [v. 19, 1:3-7]

III. THE JUDGMENT OF UNBELIEVERS [v. 17-19]

1. THEIR END IS UNPLEASANT [v. 17, 1 Th. 1:9-10, 2 Th. 1:5-10]

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

2. THEIR END IS BEFORE GOD [v. 18, Rev. 20:11-15]

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

3. THEIR END IS INEVITABLE [v. 19, Hebrews 10:29]

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

THE LORD'S SUPPER

1 COR. 11

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE MEANING OF THE LORD'S SUPPER

1. There is no saving power in communion. Not part of the Gospel. [1 Cor. 15:1-6ff]

2. There is not set schedule for the Lord’s Supper [1 Cor. 11:26] some churches to it every week, some do it every 5th Sunday, the Jews has Passover only once a year, but this is not technically Passover…

3. It is not a sacrament, it is an ordinance. 1 of only 2 given in the New Testament for believers. The other is baptism by immersion for believers only. It symbolizes the death of Christ. It sets forth the broken body (not bones) and shed blood of Christ, just as baptism pictures the same and His resurrection. (1 Cor. 2:1-8, 11:23-26)

II. THE LORD’S SUPPER POINTS IN 3 DIRECTIONS

1. A past transaction (1 Co. 11:26)

we are called upon with the Lord's Supper to remember what was accomplished on Calvary

2. A present experience (1 Co. 11:26) "as oft as ye..."

3. A future event (1 Co. 11:26 "...till He come.", Mk. 14:25, Rev. 19:6-9)

III. THE LORD'S SUPPER PRESUPPOSES PREPARATION [Mt. 26:17]

1. Review & examine (1 Co. 11:27-32, 2 Co. 13:5) (known disobedience)

2. Repent & rely (1 Jn. 1:9)

3. Rededicate & partake (Rm. 12:1-2, 1 Co. 11:28b) "...so let him..."

A Tragic Anniversary

Forty-six years ago, seven justices on the Supreme Court of the United States made a decision that stained their hands with the blood of tens of millions of children. These men legalized abortion across the United States. Their decision, and the subsequent decisions of millions of women have cost nearly sixty million children their lives.

"Around 1,000" People at the March For Life?

Fake news has been in the news a lot this week. In an obvious display of their anti-life bias, most major news outlets completely ignored the massive crowd at the annual March for Life, in Washington, DC. But one outlet, CNN, condescended to cover the story but claimed only "around 1,000 people" showed up to march in defense of the defenseless. But that's fake news!

John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

In Lockport, Illinois, a man who owned a drugstoe was wonderfully saved in the service. When I gave him a chance to witness, he stood and said to the crowd, "I'm so glad to be saved! I have been wanting to be saved for a long time!"
I say that salvation can give peace of heart and the struggle is over. You have Heaven as your home and God as your Father, Christ as your Saviour, and Satan cannot have you. You belong to God. - John R. Rice

Jesus has promised, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matt. 6:33). So, knowing God's care is promised for me always, I have peace in my heart. I know I am a child of God. I know I am going to Heaven. I know He cares for me. Why, He has proven it all these long years, taking care of me and my family and has helped me to serve Him. It is wonderful to be saved! Yes, that is one thing being saved means--peace of heart and help day by day. - John R. Rice

Whatever planning you make for this world is more or less contingent and tentative and unsure. Oh, but to know that at the end of the road we have Heaven, happiness, blessing, and payday for all the toils and trials that we bore for Jesus! Heaven is wonderful! - John R. Rice

"Rule over [Genesis 3:16]? I don't want somebody ruling over me!" I know. Neither did the Devil when he was an archangel. He didn't want God telling him what to do. So he rebelled and became Satan. That is the same reason every man is in jail today. He did not want anybody telling him what to do. That is the trouble with every sinner who dies and goes to Hell. It is the very heart of Christ-rejection that puts people into Hell. There is no way to be a good Christian without submission to authority. So a wife is to be subject to her husband. - John R. Rice

But somebody says, "Brother Rice, that is in the Old Testament." But fortunately the God who wrote the Old Testament wrote a New Testament, too.- John R. Rice

"Brother Rice, I believe in talking to my children." Fine. Only sometimes they need a hearing aid since they don't hear very well.
At our house we had six girls. Sometimes Mrs. Rice would say, "Now, girls, I want these dishes washed and the kitchen cleaned up."
"All right, Mother." But, goodnight! Company would come and lots of things would be going on, and the first thing you know, Mrs. Rice would say, "Girls! This kitchen-I told you to clean up these dishes."
"Oh, Mother, I didn't hear you," or "I forgot."
Well, we found a way to help their hearing. The Bible says, "Bring them [the children] up in the nurture{or discipline or chastening or chastising] and admonition of the Lord." - John R. Rice

"Brother Rice, I believe in praying for our children." Fine--provided the praying is IN the will of God and not INSTEAD of the will of God. Praying is good if it doesn't take the place of obeying. "To obey is better than sacrifice" or praying, either one. So do what God said about it and you can have godly children. Chastening and admonition is the Lord's plan. - John R. Rice
