John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

1 Peter 3:3-4 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
Note carefully here that a woman's adorning is not "that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel." Now, if plaiting the hair is forbidden here, and if wearing of gold is forbidden here, then the putting on of clothes is forbidden, too! We know that that is not true. No, it is not wrong to plait the hair and wear gold. Only these are not the things that make a woman beautiful, and so they do not count as beauty aids compared with "the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit." Thus, plaiting the hair and wearing of jewelry is not forbidden, although that is not a woman's real adornment. - John R. Rice

Oh, for the influence of a godly father upon his children! - John R. Rice

Christian morality comes only from the historic Christian faith, the old-time religion. It comes from knowing and loving the Word of God. - John R. Rice

The Bible is the only hope for our civilization - John R. Rice

The one place where the Bible can be fully taught daily and adequately is in the home. - John R. Rice

What hypocrisy it is for Christian people to indignantly blame the action of the Supreme Court about no Bible reading and no prayer in the schools when they do not have it at home! There is no law to prevent you from praying with your children. There is no law to prevent you from reading the Bible in your home and teaching your children the Bible. And it is a poor kind of escapism to blame the courts for forbidding Bible teaching in the schools, when you do not sincerely care enough about it to have it in your own home. - John R. Rice

Blessed is the Christian who sets out to dig in the Bible to find treasures! There are lots of treasures there. If you do not find them, it is because you are careless, or ignorant, or indifferent. - John R. Rice
