Be ye followers of me as I am of Christ

by Sumner Wemp

"Be ye followers of me as I also am of Christ" 1 Cor. 11:1. Can you say that?

"Most Christians live such subnormal Christian lives that if someone lives a normal Christian life, people think they are abnormal" Dr. Chafer, founder of Dallas Theological Seminary.

Jesus said, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men" Matt 4:19. Someone else said, "If you are not fishing for men, you are not following." How many in your church are real "fishers of men?" Kind sir, are YOU a fisher of men? Can you say, "Be followers of me as I am of Christ?" That is how you build your church. Here are three BIG time results.

1. You change people and the world. "If any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away, all things are become new" 2 Cor. 5:17. Isn't that an ultimate goal of a pastor?

2. Joy shall be in heaven over one sinner (getting saved) more than over ninety and nine just persons which need no repentance (already saved). Lk 15:7. That is a staggering statement. We can also say, "Joy shall be in a church over one sinner getting saved. That should be a passion of ever pastor. Think of the joy in a home when that new baby is born. So it is in a church. Those who fuss and fume are not fishing.

3. Need money in your church? Go fishing for men and you will find the money. Matt 17:27. To God be the glory. Every church I pastored, we had the money. I and our people went fishing for men. "Go thou and do likewise"

"I have learned SO MUCH from the Holy Spirit through you. What a drink of water! Thank you."

"When He (Jesus) saw the multitudes He was moved with compassion... they were sheep having no shepherd (no Savior). Why? "The laborers are few" Matt 9:36, 37.
"They rehearsed all that God had done with them" Acts 14:27. They were not boasting. They were telling what God did. How we need to do that today and for it to be just as normal as breathing. When have you seen "a demonstration of the power of God" in your life? We need to tell about it to encourage others to hunger for it.
