DOING RIGHT THE RIGHT WAY!

2 KINGS 18:1-8

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE SANCTIFICATION OF DOING RIGHT [v. 1-6]

1. Pattern your Life Appropriately [v. 1-3, Philippians 3:17; 1 Peter 2:21]

- Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

- For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

2. Take Out the Trash [v. 4a, 2 Chr. 7:14, Ephesians 4:31]

-If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

-Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

3. Call Things by the Right Name [v. 4b, Isaiah 5:20]

-Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

II. THE SPIRITUALIZATION OF DOING RIGHT [v. 5-6]

1. Trust God [v. 5, Psalm 37:5]

-Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

2. Cleave to God [v. 6a, Deuteronomy 10:20, 13:4]

- Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.

- Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him

-I will cleave to the old rugged cross, and exchange it one day for a crown.

3. Keep His Commandments [v. 6b, John 14:15, 15:10]

-If ye love me, keep my commandments.

-If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

III. THE SATISFACTION OF DOING RIGHT [v. 7-8]

1. The Presence of the Lord [v. 7a, John 14:23, 2 Cor. 6:16-18]

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

- And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

2. The Prosperity of the Lord [v. 7b, Joshua 1:7-8]

- Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

3. The Power of the Lord [v. 7c-8, 1 Peter 5:6-11]

- Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

COMMON CHRISTIANITY

COMMON CHRISTIANITY

JUDE 1-3

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. WE [Bible-believing Christians] HAVE SOMEONE IN COMMON

1. We Have God  our Father in Common [Colossians 1:1-2]

PAUL, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother, To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. We Have Christ our Saviour in Common [1 Timothy 2:5, 2 Peter 1:1]

-For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

- Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

3. We Have the Holy Ghost our Comforter [John 14:16, 26; 15:26, 16:7]

-And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

-But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

-But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

-Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

II. WE [Bible-believing Christians] HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON

1. We Have a Common Salvation [Jude 3]

2. We Have a Common Faith [Jude 3]

3. We Have a Common Mission [Jude 21-23]

III. WE [Bible-believing Christians] HAVE SOMEPLACE IN COMMON

1. We Have the Throne of Grace [Hebrews 4:14-16]

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

2. We Have The Kingdom of Heaven [Matthew 8:11]

And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

3. We Have the Father’s House [John 14:1-6]

-Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way , the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

- Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

THE BIBLE AND THE TRINITY

THE BIBLE AND THE TRINITY

MATTHEW 28:16-20

Pastor Rick Jackson

One great Bible doctrine that confuses many of the cults is the doctrine of the Trinity. Any group that denies the Trinity is a group you want no part of. Someone may say, “But I don’t understand it.” John R. Rice once said, “The things you don’t understand would fill a mighty big book.” There is a lot that is true that you and I don’t understand- but that doesn’t make it any less true. The Word of God is True, and the Word of God teaches the Trinity.

I. THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD

1. So Says the Law [Dt. 4:35, 6:4]

- Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know that the Lord he is God; there is none else beside him.

-Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

2. So Says the Prophets [Is. 43:10-11, 44:6]

- Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.

-Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

3. So Says the Saviour [Mark 12:28-30]

And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

II. THERE ARE THREE PERSONS IN THIS ONE GOD

1. The Word “One” in these Passages refer to a Compound Unity [Gn. 2:24, 11:6, Jn. 17:22, Gal. 3:28]

- Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

- And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

- And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

- There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

2. God Uses Plural Pronouns referring to Himself [Gn. 1:26, 3:22, Is. 6:8]

- And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

- And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

- Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

3. The New Testament often refers to the Trinity [Mt. 3:16-17, Eph. 4:4-6, 2 Cor. 13:14]

- And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

- There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

-The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

III. GOD IS ESSENTIALLY ONE AND IS ALSO THREE

1. God is Spirit [Jn. 4:24]

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

2. God is Infinite [Ps. 147:5, Numbers 23:19, Isaiah 40:18-31]

-Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

- God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

3. God is a Trinity [Mt. 28:19] physical example- H20- water=liquid, steam=vapor, ice=solid

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
