Jesus and the Flood

Jesus and the Flood
"For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Matthew 24:38-39)

The Lord Jesus Christ not only believed in the special, recent creation of all things by God (note Mark 10:6-8), but also in the worldwide Flood of Noah's day, including the special preservation of life on the Ark. The Flood in which He believed was obviously not a "local flood," for He compared it to the worldwide future impact of His Second Coming.

Neither was it a "tranquil flood," nor a "selective flood," for Jesus said, "The flood came, and destroyed them all" (Luke 17:27). It is clear that He was referring to--and that He believed--the Genesis record of the great Flood! There it says that the whole earth was "filled with violence" (Genesis 6:13), having first been filled with people, and that the resulting world-cleansing deluge was so cataclysmic that "every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth" (Genesis 7:23). Indeed, "the flood came, and took |literally 'lifted'| them all away."

This is what Jesus said, and what He believed, and therefore, those who are truly His disciples must also believe this. The destructive effects of the Flood can still be seen today, not only in the biblical record, but also in the abundant evidences of cataclysmic destruction in the rocks and fossil graveyards all over the world. To refuse this evidence, as do many modern intellectuals, can only be because they "willingly are ignorant," as Peter said in referring to this testimony (2 Peter 3:5). HMM

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

None of us will ever live this day again. - Wendell Kempton

We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. - Abraham Lincoln

The most effective, useful Christian is the one who is full of joy! A believer without joy will soon wear out and become defeated. "The joy of the Lord is my strength!" It's not a 'side-benefit,' it makes all the difference! - Pastor Butch Callahan

Beware of singers who make Jesus more than a two syllable word.  - Bruce Lackey [late Tennessee Temple Bible professor]

If our motives are not right, then our ministry will be wrong! - Evangelist Tim Lee

Why spend money you don't have to buy things you don't need to impress people you don't like?" - author unknown [at least to me]

It is a great deal better to live a holy life than to talk about it. Lighthouses don’t ring bells and fire cannons to call attention to their shining; they just shine. — D. L. Moody

Question of the Week: When does life begin?

Q: When does life begin?

A: Although science has shown us the wonderful continuity of the development of life throughout all its stages, science has been unable to define the onset of humanness. However, there is ample information in Scripture for us to determine the answer to this problem.
The Bible contains numerous references to the unborn. Each time the Bible speaks of the unborn, there is reference to an actual person, a living human being already in existence. These Scriptures, taken in context, all indicate that God considers the unborn to be people. The language of the text continually describes them in personal terms.
Since the Bible treats those persons yet unborn as real persons, and since the development of a person is a continuum with a definite beginning at the moment of fertilization, the logical point at which a person begins to be human is at that beginning. The answer is that life begins at conception (using the now older definition of the term, synonymous with fertilization). Frankly, no other conclusion is possible from Scripture or science.
Discover the details of how human life begins and develops, then learn what Scripture teaches about the unborn.

Really? REALLY? really?

Over 20 years ago I was leaving my house in Chattanooga, Tn. to walk to work. I came across a running station wagon [remember those?] with several children inside. The mother was on a front porch of my neighbor's house chatting away. I couldn't stand it so I said, "Excuse me ma'am. Your car is running."

She replied, "I know, I'm standing right here."

Now "here" was up 5-6 steps to get to yard level, 30-40 feet more to get to the porch steps, 5-6 more steps to get up on the porch where she was. If someone had wanted to steal the car then all she could have done was watch them drive off from the porch! This kind of foolishness with the most prized heritage the good Lord gives us irked me no bounds.

"Yes ma'am, I can see that. I'll just stand right here until you finish."

She cut her conversation short, came back down to the car, clearly irritated, and gave me "the glare" [no explanation necessary- if you have been the recipient of one- you know].

I walked on to work with nary a shred of guilt for having ruined her conversation.

Now what, pray tell, bought this on 20 plus years later that I would write about it? Her tribe has increased. This is not the first story I have seen or read of similar situations... merely the latest.

Love One Another

Bill Rice Ranch - First Light Devotionals
I John 4:7  "Beloved, let us love one another: for  love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God."

Have you ever met a stranger with whom you share a mutual friend?  You probably felt like saying, "Any friend of his is a friend of mine!"  That sounds warm and fuzzy, doesn't it?  After all, your mutual friend has exceptional taste in friends (you), right?

However, after talking to this stranger, you find out that he is weird and your assumptions about "any friend of his is a friend of mine" were not true!  Has that scenario ever happened to you?  How could your friend like you and also like this clod!

The truth is, God loves many people whom I do not love.  Now, if God loves them and I do not, He must know something that I have forgotten!  I am to love others because I am loved by God.  I should love because I "be"-loved.  People see God in this world when they see His love through your life (verse 12).

We love God when we love the people that He put here!  You can't love God and hate your brother (verse 20).  No one is more an enemy of God than you were.  When you put yourself into perspective by putting God into perspective, it will help you to see everyone else in the right perspective.  There shouldn't be one person God loves that you do not love!

"Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another."

Q: What are the devastating results of Roe v. Wade?

A: Tuesday, January 22, will mark 40 years since the Supreme Court of the United States handed down its 7-2 decision in the Roe v. Wade case, in which state laws prohibiting abortions were declared unconstitutional based on an alleged right to privacy in the due process clause of the 14th Amendment. Since that fateful day, over 54 million babies in the U.S. have been legally murdered through surgical abortions—and many more through other means such as abortifacient drugs.
Various liberal groups hail Roe v. Wade as a monumental victory. On the other hand, many Christians and political conservatives view the decision as inherently immoral and an atrocious abuse of the 14th Amendment.
Anniversaries, whether of good or bad occasions, give us a reason to reflect on the results or consequences of those events.
Read the devastating results of the Roe v. Wade court case—and look at some of the changes over the past 40 years related to the abortion issue.
