PSALM 122:6
Pastor Rick
Jackson
I. PRAY
1. Prayer is
Something We Can Do [Luke 18:1]
Men ought
always to pray, and not to faint.
2. Prayer is
Something that Can Work Effectually [James 5:16]
The
effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
3. Prayer is
Something We are Commanded to Do [1 Thessalonians 5:17, 1 Timothy 2:8]
-Pray
without ceasing.
-I will
therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and
doubting.
II. PRAY
FOR THE PEACE
1. Christ is
the Peace [Romans 5:1, Phil. 4:7]
-Therefore
being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
-And the
peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus.
2. Christ is
Coming [Isaiah 9:6-7]
For unto us
a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God,
The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government
and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his
kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from
henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
3. Christ
Will Bring True Peace [Ezekiel 37:21-28]
III. PRAY
FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM
1. This Unifies
those Praying with Each Other [Matthew 18:19-20, Acts 1:14, 12:5. 2 Corinthians 1:11]
-Again I say
unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that
they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For
where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of
them.
-These all
continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary
the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
-Peter
therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church
unto God for him.
- Ye also
helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the
means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
2. This
Unifies those Praying with the Will of God [Luke 11:2]
And he said
unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy
name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3. This
Unifies those Praying with God Himself [1 John 1:5-10, 5:14-15]
This then is
the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is
light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with
him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the
light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have
no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and
his word is not in us.
-And this is
the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his
will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know
that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
