MOSES - THE WISE MAN OF THE MOUNTAINS

NEW TESTAMENT ADVENTURES OF OLD TESTAMENT HEROES #2

Pastor Rick Jackson

There is a recurring motif in the last century or so of a wise man on a mountain whom people seek to ask, “What is the meaning of life,” or “What is the way to happiness” or some question of a similar nature. I do not know where the idea of the wise man of the mountain originated but Moses could definitely be “a” wise man of the mountains and, he certainly, by God’s grace, has the answers.

I. MOUNT SINAI – THE LAWS OF LIVING & DYING [Jn. 1]

1. The Law of Unattainable Perfection [John 1:17, 5:45, 7:19] Moses in person accusing them?

Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

2. The Grace of Obtainable Perfection [John 1:45, 17; 5:46, Acts 13:39]

And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

3. The Power of Law & Grace Understood [Rm. 11:6, Galatians 3:24, Rev. 15:3]

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

II. MOUNT NEBO – THE LAWS OF SINNING & SUFFERING

1. God Can Not & Will Not Condone Sin [Dt. 3:23-29]

2. God is Holy & God is Merciful [Dt. 32:45-52]

3. God is Granter of Strength & Taker of Life [Dt. 34:1-7]

III. MOUNT OF TRANSFIGURATION – THE LAW OF CHANGING & GLORY [Lk. 9]

1. The Glory of Being with Jesus [v. 27-31a, 2 Corinthians 3:7]

But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious , so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

2. The Glory of Knowing Christ [v. 31, 2 Corinthians 4:6]

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness , hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

3. The Glory of Being Part of His Plan [v. 32-36, 2 Corinthians 3:18]

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
