LUKE 24:13-24

I. READ HIS WORD TO LEARN OF JESUS                  

God wrote you a letter, you ought to read your mail

1. Read it Often [v. 25-27, 4:16]

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

2. Read it Attentively [v. 25-27, 4:17-21, 2 Tm. 2:15]

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted , to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

3. Read it All [v. 25-27, 2 Tm. 3:15-16]

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

II. REMEMBER HIS WORD TO BE LIKE JESUS [Mt. 4, Lk. 4] 

(memorize it). Be like Jesus, He memorized the Bible

1. To Be Real To Focus on Life (meditate therein day and night) [Psalm 1:2]

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Psalm 63:6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

Psalm 77:12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

Psalm 119:15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.

2. To Be Ready To Facilitate the Lost [1 Peter 3:15]

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

1 Timothy 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute , willing to communicate;

Titus 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

3. To Be Rehearsed His Word To Face the Enemy [Psalm 119:11, Mt. 4, Lk. 4]

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

III. RESPOND TO HIS WORD TO PLEASE JESUS

1. Respond When You are Busy [Luke 5:1-3]

2. Respond When You are Tired [Luke 5:4-5]

3. Respond With Your Whole Heart [Luke 5:5-11]

A good question -"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?" Luke 6:46.

James 1:22-25] But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

How logical. "Let us reason together says the Lord" Isa. 1:18. Oh how we need to just obey God.

Meditate on these last five lines. It is the key to the Christian life today.

Saved unto good works

We are NOT saved or kept saved by good works but we are "created in Christ Jesus to do good works" Eph. 2:10.

"Good works don't produce salvation but salvation produces good works."

O dear people, as you read the Word of the living God, be honest with yourself and just DO WHAT GOD SAYS. When God says, "Pray," pray. When God says "Read," read. When God says, "Give," give. – Sumner Wemp
