BEHOLD, HE COMETH!

BEHOLD, HE COMETH!

REV. 1:1-7

Pastor Rick Jackson

There is more in the Bible about the second coming of Christ than there is about the first coming of Christ. That is not to say that the second coming is more important than the first coming. They are equally important. They are inexorably linked. You cannot have one without the other. Obviously, Christ could not come a second time unless He had come the first time. The work He did in the first prepares for the work which He will do in the second. You cannot have the first coming without the second coming either. You say, but pastor, He has already come. How can you say you cannot have the first coming without the second coming? That’s easy- during the first coming Christ Himself told of the second coming. The Scriptures told of both. If the second coming does not happen [but it will] exactly as Christ and the Bible say, then the first coming is rendered void and the issue moot. But my friend, Christ is coming again!
Dr. Lee Roberson said, “All but one book of the Bible mentions the second coming of Christ. I have found the second coming of Christ in every book of the Bible except in one of the minor prophets. One in every twenty verses of the New Testament is about the second coming.”

I. BEHOLD, HE COMETH FOR US!

1. He Came Before to take Away Our Sins [Jn. 1:29-36]

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

2. He is Coming Again to Take Us Away [1 Th. 4:13-18]

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

3. He is Coming Later to Take Satan’s Reign Away [Rev. 19:11-20:3]

II. BEHOLD, HE REWARDETH! [Rev. 22:12]

1. The Judgment Seat of Christ [1 Cor. 3:10-15, 2 Cor. 5:10-11]

According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

2. The Judgment of the Living Nations [Mt. 25:31-46]

3. The Great White Throne Judgment [Rev. 20:11-15]

III. BEHOLD, HE WARNETH! [Rev. 22:7]

1. The Lost Man is Warned! [Rev. 3:9, 20]

2. The Christian is Warned! [Rev. 3:11, 16:15, 22:7, 22:12]

3. The Nation of Israel is Warned! [Lk. 13:7, 35]

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you , Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
