The Lord's Supper

I. THE TRUE MESSAGE OF THE LORD'S SUPPER

There is no saving power in communion. It is not a sacrament, it is an ordinance. 1 of only 2 given in the New Testament for believers. The other is baptism by immersion for believers only. It symbolizes the death of Christ. It sets forth the broken body (not bones) and shed blood of Christ, just as baptism pictures the same and His resurrection. (I Cor. 2:1-8, 11:23-26)

II. IT POINTS IN 3 DIRECTIONS

1. A past transaction (I Co. 11:26)

we are called upon with the Lord's Supper to remember what was accomplished on Calvary

2. A present experience (I Co. 11:26) "as oft as ye..."

3. A future event (I Co. 11:26 "...till He come.", Mk. 14:25, Rev. 19:6-9)

III. PREPARATION FOR THE LORD'S SUPPER

1. Review & examine (I Co. 11:27-32, II Co. 13:5) (known disobedience)

2. Repent & rely (I Jn. 1:9)

3. Redicate & partake (Rm. 12:1-2, I Co. 11:28b) "...so let him..."
