Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in
our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father

I. THE BOUNDS
OF HOPE
1. Hope is Bound
in a Person [Jeremiah 17:7] Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and
whose hope the LORD is.
2. Hope is Bound
in a Work [1 Peter 1:3]
Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant
mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ from the dead,
3. Hope is Bound
in a Future [Titus 2:13]
Looking for
that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour
Jesus Christ;
II. THE GLORY
OF HOPE
1. It Is a
Glory We May Access [Romans 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this
grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.]
2. It Is a Glory
We May Know [Ephesians 1:15-23]
Wherefore I
also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the
saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That
the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the
spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your
understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his
calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And
what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according
to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised
him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far
above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that
is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath
put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to
the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
3. It Is a
Glory Christ Provides [Colossians 1:27]
To whom God
would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the
Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
III. THE PRESENCE
OF HOPE [Romans 8:31
… If God be for us, who can be against us?]
1. God
Around Us [Psalm 34:7] The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that
fear him, and delivereth them.
2. God
Before Us [Isaiah 48:17]
Thus saith
the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which
teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
3. God
Behind Us [Isaiah 30:21]
And thine
ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it,
when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
4. God at
Our Right Hand [Psalm 16:8]
I have set
the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be
moved.
5. God at
Our Left Hand [Job 23:9-10]
On the left
hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the
right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he
hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
6. God Above
Us [Psalm 36:7]
How
excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their
trust under the shadow of thy wings.
7. God
Beneath Us [Deuteronomy 33:27] The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath
are the everlasting arms:
8. God in Us
[1 Corinthians 3:16] Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the
Spirit of God dwelleth in you?]
