ONLY A FOOL MOCKS AT SIN

Proverbs 14:9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

I. ONLY A FOOL MOCKS SINS OF COMMISSION

 

1. They are Sins Against God (not neutral) [Gn. 39:9]

 

There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

 

2. They are Sins Against Christ [1 Cor. 8:12, Jude 14-17]

 

But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against HIM. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

 

3. They are Sins Against the Holy Spirit [Eph. 4:30]

 

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

 

II. ONLY A FOOL MOCKS SINS OF OMMISSION

 

1.  They are Sins Against God [1 Sam. 12:23, James 4:17]

 

Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

 

2. They are Sins Disappointing Jesus [Lk. 17:17]

 

And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

 

3.  They are Sins Against the Holy Spirit [1 Thess. 5:19]

 

Quench not the Spirit.

 

III. WHY IS MOCKING SIN FOOLISH?

 

1. Mocking Sin is Foolish Because of the Results of Sin [Rm. 2:12, 3:23, 5:12, 6:23, 7:5, 11, 13-14]

 

2. Mocking Sin is Foolish Because of the Reality of Sin (Sin is a master- not a servant) [Rm. 3:9, 5:14, 6:12-18, 20]

 

3. Mocking Sin is Foolish Because of the One Remedy for Sin [Rm. 3:10, 20, 25; 4:7-8, 5:8, 16, 19-21, 8:2-3, 10:9-13]
