BEWARE LEST THOU FORGET THE LORD

Dt. 6:1-12 [especially 2, 6-7, 12]

Pastor Rick Jackson

Israel was warned but Israel forgot. In America we started out with people whose intent was to serve God and worship Him- the puritans, the pilgrims, the early colonists, the founding fathers… but America has forgotten. America has left and laughed at the fundamentals of the faith [salvation by grace, Heaven, Hell, the second coming, etc.]. America has desecrated God’s day. Sunday is a holyday not a holiday. It is the Lord’s Day. America has come to worship two idols - money and pleasure. We need to remember to-

I. BEWARE LEST THOU FORGET THE WORD OF THE LORD [Teach it, believe it, preach it, practice it, share it!]

1. Don’t Forget to Love His Will [2 Peter 1:19-21]

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

The Bible is the rock on which this Republic rests. - Andrew Jackson

2. Don’t Forget to Study His Truth [2 Tim. 2:15]

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.  - Theodore Roosevelt

3. Don’t Forget to Live His Truth [2 Tim. 3:16-17]

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works

Hold fast to the Bible. To the influence of this Book we are indebted for all the progress made in true civilization and to this we must look as our guide in the future. - Ulysses S. Grant

Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face.  - Ronald Reagan

II. BEWARE LEST THOU FORGET TO SPEAK TO THE LORD IN PRAYER

1.  It is the Way of Obedience  [Lk. 18:1, 1 Thess. 5:17]

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Pray without ceasing.

2. It is the Way to Get Our Needs [James 4:2]

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3.  It is the Way to Have Revival [2 Chr. 7:14]

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

III. BEWARE LEST THOU FORGET TO SERVE THE LORD

1. Serve God Willingly [Hebrews 12:28]

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

2. Serve God Lovingly [Dt. 6:5, 1 Cor. 13]

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

3. Serve God Joyfully [PS. 100:1-3] I don’t have to serve God, I get to serve God

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture
