GLORY

LUKE 9:26-36

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE GLORY TO COME [v. 26-29]

1. The Master of Glory [v. 26]

Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

James 2:1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

2. The Mention of Glory [v. 27, John 17:5]

And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

3. The Meaning of Glory [v. 28-29, 2 Peter 1:16-18]

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

II. THE GLORY OF SALVATION [v. 30-32]

1. The Weightier Speakers [v. 30]

2. The Weightier Topic [v. 31, Heb. 12:2]

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3. The Weightier Time [v. 32]

III. THE GLORY OF SPEAKING [v. 33-36]

1. Speaking from Ignorance [v. 33]

2. Speaking from Heaven [v. 34-35]

3. Speaking from Silence [v. 36, Habakkuk 2:20]

But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Zephaniah 1:7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.

Zechariah 2:13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
