THE SACRED SECRET OF SATISFACTION

Pastor Rick Jackson

PSALM 17

Everybody wants satisfaction but no one has found it beneath the sun. The Bible, particularly the book of Ecclesiastes, tells of Solomon’s efforts to be satisfied and his inability to be thus. If the richest, wisest, most famous man of his time failed, how, with our meager resources, do we hope to be satisfied?

Proverbs 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

Ecclesiastes 1:8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

Ecclesiastes 4:8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

Let me begin by giving you the answer. What is the sacred secret of satisfaction? It is:

I. THE SACRED SECRET OF SATISFACTION IS THE SATISFACTION OF BEHOLDING OUR SAVIOUR IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

1. The Testimony of Job [Job 19:26-27]

And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

2. The Testimony of David [Ps. 17:15]

As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

3. The Testimony of John [1 John 3:2]

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

II. THE SACRED SECRET OF SATISFACTION IS THE SATISFACTION THAT IS PERSONAL

The same worldly things don’t satisfy everyone. What satisfies your sweet tooth?

1. The Difficulties of this Life Make Satisfaction Improbable [Ps. 17:1-8]

The closest we come in this life is living in fellowship with Him but we fail! Are you satisfied with your spiritual life?

Proverbs 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

2. The Opposition of this Life Make Satisfaction Impossible [Ps. 17:9-13]

3. The Injustice of this Life Make Satisfaction Imperceptible [Ps. 17:13b-14]

III. THE SACRED SECRET OF SATISFACTION IS THE SATISFACTION THAT LASTS [Daniel 12:2]

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

You have a very satisfying meal… but you get hungry again. Where is the satisfaction that lasts?

1. The Testimony of John [1 John 3:2]

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

2. The Testimony Of Paul [Philippians 3:21]

Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

3. The Testimony of Peter [2 Peter 3:13 compared with Ps. 17:15]

As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
