THE DAY OF PENTECOST – PETER’S MESSAGE

ACTS 2:21-47

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. A MESSAGE FOR THE MASSES [v. 21-24]

1. Whosoever [v. 21, 39, John 3:16]

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2. Jews [v. 22-23a]

3. Gentiles [v. 23-24, John 18:31]

Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

II. A MESSAGE FOR THE AGES [v. 25-36]

1. David Said It [v. 25-30] 1000 years before it happened

2. David Saw It [v. 31-33] just as Abraham did 2000 years before (Jn. 8:56) & Moses did 1500 yrs. (Heb. 11)

3. David Scripted It [v. 34-36, Ps. 110, Mt. 22:43-44] by the Holy Spirit

He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

III. A MESSAGE FOR THE HEART [v. 37-43]

1. Heart Conviction [v. 37]

2. Heart Confession [v. 38-40, Rm. 10:9-13, 15:26]

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Quick note: they weren’t baptized to be saved they were baptized to show they were saved. “For” can have different meanings in Greek just like in English “I went to the store FOR my wife.” That could mean I went to the store because my wife was there and I went to get her OR I went in her behalf so she didn’t have to go herself. Context means a lot. Baptism in the Bible is NOT in order to get saved but rather because you have been saved.

Rm. 15: 26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

Does that mean to make the saints poor? No, it means because they were already poor.

3. Heart Reception [v. 41-43, Jn. 1:12]

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
