BE FAMOUS, BUT BE FAMOUS FOR THE RIGHT REASONS!

HEBREWS 11:32-40

Pastor Rick Jackson

All through the Bible there are people who are famous- some whose name’s we know and some whose names we shall learn at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Some who are famous are known to many, some who are known to few, and some who are known only to God- but famous nonetheless.

We should all strive to be famous as we will see in a moment, but we should strive to be famous for the right reasons. Benedict Arnold is a famous American traitor. John Wilkes Booth is a famous American assassin. Hitler is a famous dictator. Judas Iscariot is a famous betrayer. Now, why should you and I be famous?

I. BE FAMOUS FOR YOUR FAITH [Hebrews 11]

1. Be Famous for Believing in God [11:1-3, 6]

2. Be Famous for Believing in God’s Work [Jn. 14:1-6, Rm. 1:16, 10:9-13

3. Be Famous for Believing in God’s Word [11:6, Rm. 10:17]

II. BE FAMOUS FOR YOUR FAITHFULNESS [Hebrews 11]

1. Your Faithfulness with Your Word [Proverbs 11:13, 14:4]

A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

2. Your Faithfulness with Someone Else’s Word [Proverbs 25:13]

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

3. Your Faithfulness in Your Work [Daniel 6:4]

Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

4. Your Faithfulness to the Lord [Acts 16:15]

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

5. Your Faithfulness to His Word [1 Corinthians 4:1-2, 4:17; 2 Timothy 2:2]

Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

6. Your Faithfulness Unto Death [Revelation 2:10]

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

III. BE FAMOUS FOR YOUR FASHION [that is, what you present to others]

Luke 9:29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

1. Be Famous for Your Works [Pr. 20:11]

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

2. Be Famous for Your Testimony [Phil. 4: 5]

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

3. Be Famous [to the Lord] for Your Praying [Phil. 4:6]

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Psalm 81:10 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Ezekiel 14:14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

Ezekiel 14:20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
