THE ANGEL’S FIRST EASTER

MATTHEW 28:1-8

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE ANGEL’S MISSION [v. 1-2]

1. A Mission For a Heavenly Person [v. 1-2]

2. A Mission with an Earthly Purpose [v. 2]

3. A Mission Requiring Great Power [v. 2]

II. THE ANGEL’S MENACE [v. 3-4]

1. A Demonstration of Power [v. 2, 4]

2. A Demonstration of Light [v. 3-4, Revelation 4:5]

And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

8:5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.

11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

3. A Demonstration of Derision [v. 2, Psalm 2:1-7]

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee

Acts 13:33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

III. THE ANGEL’S MESSAGE [v. 5-8]

1. A Message of Fulfillment [v. 5-6]

2. A Message of Responsibility [v. 7, 18-20]

3. A Message of Joy [v. 8, Matthew 2:10]

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him
