PS.
103:13
Pastor Rick Jackson
It is Mother's Day and a little over a month from Father's
Day. The wrong kind of parents will break your heart, the right kind of parents
were given by God as the closest picture of Him you will ever have on this
earth. But even the best, most godly of parents fall short of God's Love.
I. GOD'S LOVE IS
SIMILAR TO PARENTAL LOVE
1. Think of God's Compassion [Ps. 103:13] -Like as a father
pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
2. Think of God's Provision [Pr. 3:12]
-For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father
the son in whom he delighteth.
3. Think of God's Protection [Lk. 13:34]
-O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and
stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy
children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would
not!
II. GOD'S LOVE IS
STRONGER THAN PARENTAL LOVE
1. Parents May Forsake [Ps. 27:10] -When my father and my
mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
2. Parents May Forget [Is. 49:13-16]
-Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth
into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will
have mercy upon his afflicted. But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my
Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should
not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I
not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy
walls are continually before me.
3. Parents May Act Selfishly [Heb. 12:9-11]
-Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which
corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in
subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days
chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be
partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be
joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of
righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
III. GOD'S LOVE IS
SURER THAN PARENTAL LOVE
1. God’s Love Reaches the Lost
Soul [Rm. 5:8, 10:9-13]
-But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we
were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
-That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with
the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever
believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the
Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon
him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
2. God’s Love Redeems the Lone Sinner [Jn. 1:6-13]
-There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The
same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him
might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that
Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the
world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew
him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as
received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them
that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the
flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
3. God’s Love Realizes the Lasting Solution [2 Jn 4, 3 Jn.
4, 1 Jn. 3:1-3]
-I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in
truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
-I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in
truth.
-Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon
us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us
not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth
not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we
shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this
hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
