PSALM 5
Pastor Rick Jackson
I. GOD’S HEARING [v.
1-3]
1. A Prayer to Hear Really [v. 1]
2. A Prayer to Hearken Responsively [v. 2]
Note by the way, King David, acknowledges that God is his
King as well as his God. This certainly implies a willingness to obey as well
as wanting God to hear his petitions.
3. A Promise to Humble Repeatedly [v. 3]
Here's a good idea. Why don't we, like David, start our day
seeking the Lord's face and blessing?
II. GOD’S HOLINESS
[v. 4-6]
1. No Pleasure in Wickedness
[v. 4]
2. No Presence for the Unrepentant Fools [v. 5, 16:11]
3. No Paradise for the Unsaved [v. 6, Matthew 10:28]
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to
kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body
in hell. Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the
bloody and deceitful man.
The character of God makes it impossible for Him to be
pleased with sin (the New Testament declares in 2 Timothy 2:13 If we believe
not, yet he abideth faithful: He cannot deny himself.)
III. GOD’S HELP [v.
7-12]
1. Come to God [v. 7-8] -for
mercy
-to
worship
-for
guidance
David doesn't claim to be righteous on his own, but he knows
what he needs. He comes to God for mercy (which only a sinner needs), he comes
to God to worship in fear, and for guidance.
2. Repent of Rebellion [v. 9-10]
The comparison of those that trust in themselves versus
those that trust in God reads like a modern-day analysis. Compare humbling
coming to Christ with arrogant politicians, Hollywoodites, sports figures, or
even people you know... hopefully not the person in the mirror.
3. Seek God & His Blessing [v. 11-12, Mt. 6:33]
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you.
What we need is the blessing of God on our lives. Let us
seek Him in humility, in our need, and oh yes... in the morning!
