A sinner who is dead in trespasses and in sins may be corrupt with a foul and horrible decay of sin but, after all, he is only dead and it takes a miracle to bring the dead to life. The Lord can work such a miracle. The power of the Holy Spirit of God does work such a miracle every time a soul is saved! - John R. Rice
People sometimes say, "It is hard to have revivals!" That is true. Sometimes people say, "It is so hard to win souls!" And that is true. It is not only hard to win souls, hard to have revivals, but it is literally impossible - impossible by any human means. It is nothing short of a miracle when a revival comes upon the people of God and they get out and win souls. It is nothing short of a miracle when the Holy Spirit convicts a sinner of his sins and through some Spirit-filled Christian is led to trust Christ and be born again. Of course revivals are hard. They always were hard, and they always will be. They will always be beyond any human strength or wisdom or equipment. But, thank God, revivals are never too hard for the infinite power of the Holy Spirit of God, when men are filled with Him! - John R. Rice
It is true that the world is dark. How great is that darkness! The world of natural man has always been dark. But no matter how full of darkness a room is, when you turn on plenty of light the darkness is gone. And Jesus said, "Ye are the light of the world" (Matt. 5:14). If the dying, lost world does not have light, it is because Christians have put their lights under bushels. They are not like candles put on a candlestick that giveth light to all that are in the house. Most Christians are not like a city set on a hill that cannot be hid. - John R. Rice
Any Christian who follows Christ close enough to be like Christ, and to force the issues Christ pressed upon people's hearts, will be hated. God forgive us Christians who have no enemies! God forgive us Christians who never lose a friend, never lose a job, never are slandered, never are hated for Jesus' sake! We are not much Christians, surely. - John R. Rice
God intended the man to be a picture of God. In 1 Corinthians 11:7 the Scripture says, "For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man." God is just saying that a woman is given long hair as a veiling, a covering, a reminder and picture of submission to her husband and father. Yes, that Scripture says that if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her, but if a man have long hair, it is a shame to him. For there is nobody between a man and Christ Jesus. So the man is not to wear long hair. Men take off their hats in church. So the man represents God in a particular sense that women and children do not. The pronouns about God in the Bible are HE and HIS and HIM. - John R. Rice
At our house we went to church every time the church doors opened. We all went to Sunday school. All of us, adults and all, went to the B.Y.P.U., the young people's meeting. We all went to Wednesday night prayer meeting if they had prayer meeting. When they had revival services we went to the weekday morning services as well as the night. We went when there was plowing to be done. We went in the midst of harvest. We went when it rained or snowed. One had to be mighty sick at our house to miss the church service. And rather than word, some of that spoke to our hearts about how spiritual things were first and God wanted first place in our lives. Some way it was understood from the time we were little children that we would tithe, and we did. Oh, the blessed influence of a godly father! - John R. Rice
Happiness in the home depends on having God there, and having the home honor Christ. Only where Christ is Lord can happiness have full place. If we expect to have a little bit of Heaven in our home, then we must have Christ there and His will must be done. - John R. Rice
