Jeremiah 42:20-21 "For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it. . . . but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God. . . ."
Have you ever asked a question you really didn't mean? As in, regardless of the answer you received, you were going to do what you wanted to do anyway? You may ask a question, but your mind is already made up! Such was the case for Israel in Jeremiah 42. They asked God for direction ("That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do"), but they didn't like the answer that came back. "Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day." So what did they do? They went to Egypt anyway!
Don't ask for God's guidance if you are unwilling to follow it. What this remnant of people asked God for seemed like a good thing. However, they were not willing to hear the answer! Unfortunately, we are often just like them. We may pray for "wisdom to know what we should do," when the truth is, we already know what we ought to do. I've heard my dad often say about God's will, "You must be willing to say, 'Yes,' and to hear, 'No.'" That's good advice!
If you are willing to hear and heed what God says, then you can fully expect His wisdom, courage, and provision. He will give you the guidance for each step of the way if you will accept His answer. Be willing to say, "Yes," when He answers; be willing to hear, "No," if His answer is different than your desire.
