LEAH’S LIGHT IN THE SHADOWS

John 1:1-9, 8:12, 9:5

- Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

- As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Pastor Rick Jackson

Is your life perfect? Have you been born with a silver spoon in your mouth and caught all the breaks at just the right time? You may think others have but there are probably some that think you have it made and probably always have. As you go through life, and grow through life, and groan through life you should learn that the light at the end of the tunnel is not as important as the Light with you in the tunnel. Here’s a Bible Life to illustrate what we are saying.

I. LEAH’S LONELY LIFE IN THE SHADOWS

1. Life with Unwanted Comparisons [Gn. 29:16-17]

2. Life as an Unwanted Bride [Gn. 29:23-31]

3. Life with an Unsaved Father [Gn. 31:25-32]

II. LEAH’S LIFE IN THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY [Psalm 91:1]

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty

1. Seen in Her Baby Faith [29:32-34, 1 Cor. 3:1-3]

AND I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

2. Seen in Her Growing Faith [Gn. 29:35, 30:17-20, 1 Peter 2:2, 2 Peter 3:18]

-As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

-But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

3. Seen in Her Maturing Faith [Gn. 31:4-16, Jn. 2:5]

-His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

III. LEAH’S LASTING LEGACY IN THE SHADOWS OF HISTORY

1. A Relationship with Jacob [Gn. 49:29-33]

2. A Place of Honor in History [Ruth 4:11]

And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:

3. An Ancestor of the Messiah [Mt. 1:1-3, 15-17; Lk. 3:23, 33-34]

-THE book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren; And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

-And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations

-And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli

-Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda, Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor
