WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?

JONAH 4

Pastor Rick Jackson

1 Kings 19:4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Are you tired of living? Not that you necessarily want to end it all but you kinda want it all to end! You are weary with the day-by-day struggle. The monotonous existence. The aggravating circumstances. The drudgery of reality. The slogging through the mire of disappointment, defeat, and disgust.

I. THE PROBLEM

1. The problem wasn't that God was unmerciful [3:10, 4:1-3

2. The problem wasn't that God was unattentive [v. 4-9]

3. The problem wasn't that God was unreasonable [v. 10]

THE PROBLEM WAS THAT GOD WAS DOING THINGS GOD'S WAY INSTEAD OF JONAH'S WAY!

II. THE PERCEPTION

1. Jonah forgot about the meaning of life [v. 1-4] -
--Life is meant to be lived for Christ!

2. Jonah forgot about the matter of learning [v. 5-10]
--Learning that God's mercy is for everyone not just for us!

3. Jonah forgot about the motive of love [v. 11]
--Love (desiring the highest good) is God's motive and should be ours!

III. THE PRESCRIPTION [PHILIPPIANS]

1. REJOICE IN THE LORD [3:1, 4:4]

2. GET TO REALLY KNOW THE LORD [3:8-10]

3. PRESS ON TO THE MARK [3:13-4:1]
