My wife and I discovered our favorite restaurant in Pensacola, Fl a couple of years ago. A place called Smokey Bones. At first I thought it was going to be a one time visit because they didn't serve baked potatoes (they do now) and my dear wife likes her baked potatoes with her favorite food... which is steak! (I like steak BUT I prefer a good hamburger). So while we waiting we talked about how unusual it was for a place not to have baked potatoes to serve with steaks and... oh well... yadda yadda yadda. Well, the steak was soooooo goooood she said she didn't care. This is where we would come to eat while in Pensacola! Later they added baked potatoes and so now she's really happy!
We were in Pensacola last week (hence the paucity of blogs during that time) and lo, and behold, Smokey Bones had closed! Arrghhh! We feared this would be true of the one we discovered in Orange Park, FL (closer to Starke reality) but a quick check on the Internet when we returned allayed those fears. Orange Park hadn't but 40+ Smokey Bones had closed down. Not a good sign.
Listen folks, Smokey Bones has some good eats. Their ribs are fantastic (which you should expect from a restaurant called Smokey Bones). Their baked beans are to break a diet for! Their hamburgers are freakishly delicious and their steaks are good enough to eat without a baked potato (though those are now available). So do me a favor, if you are ever out looking for a place to eat... and you see a Smokey Bones, give 'em a shot, keep 'em opened.
Ah yes, and the service! Last night for mother's day we went out to... SMOKEY BONES in Orange Park after church! Our server was a new guy named Ryan but he was already top-notch! He sure kept those diet cokes coming and was very knowledgeable. Good job Ryan! We will do our best to keep your place open!
p.s. don't bring your little ones. It's more of a grown-up place. Make it a date with that someone special! Even if it ain't Mother's day for another year!
