HONORING THE LIVING

I have run several pieces lately about men and women of God (Jerry Falwell, Lee Roberson, Viola Walden) who have gone to be with the Lord. Certainly, there's nothing wrong with that. But it's also good to honor those servants of Christ who are living. On April 29th, 2007 the Bradford Baptist Church honored Evangelist Robert L. Sumner for his 60+ years of dedicated service. We presented his wife with a dozen roses and presented Dr. Sumner with the "Unashamed Workman Award".

As well as an evangelist Brother Sumner has been a pastor and still is an author and an editor (see Biblical Evangelist link in the top left of this blog). He certainly has been a friend to this preacher for many years and a blessing even before we met (through his writings). John R. Rice counted him a close friend and faithful columnist and preacher. He is Dr. Rice's official biographer. His pamphlet on water baptism is the finest I have ever read and all of his books will make you want to do more for the Saviour. I can think of no higher compliment.

God bless you Doc! May the dear Lord continue to bless your service for Him!
