THE QUESTION IS "WHY"? (with answers from John)

THE GOSPEL OF JOHN

Why? We've asked it and been asked it. Sometimes the answer is forthcoming, sometimes it is not. Vance Havner wisely said, God marks some of our days, "Will explain later!"

I. BECAUSE THE WORLD MUST BE SHOWN [14:1, 27-31]

1. That peace is available in a trouble world [14:1, 27]

2. That the will of God is a matter for rejoicing [14:28-29]

3. That submission is an indication of love [14:30-31]

II. BECAUSE WE NEED PRUNING [15:1-14]

1. To make us more fruitful [15:1-2]

2. To encourage abiding [15:3-6]

3. To enable us to get out prayers answered [15:7]

4. To glorify the Father as disciples of Jesus Christ [15:8]

5. Because obedience brings joy [15:9-14]

III. BECAUSE WE BELONG TO JESUS [15:18-25]

1. The world hates Jesus [15:18]

2. We are not of the world [15:15-17, 19]

3. The world does NOT know the true God [15:20-25]

Years ago a teacher put the question, "Why?" on a test. I answered, "Because." She marked it wrong and said the answer was "Why not?" Personally I think both are equally correct. Sometimes the answer is "Because." Sometimes the answer is "Why not?"
