LEGAL WITHOUT THE LAW

LEGAL WITHOUT THE LAW [of Moses]

GENESIS 15

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE DECLARATION OF CARE [v. 1-4]

1. The Personal Proclamation of God [v. 1]

2. The Pointless Petition to God [v. 2-3]

3. The Promise Repeated by God [v. 4, 13:14-16]

II. THE DAY OF CHRIST [v. 5-6]

1. The Promise of A Heavenly Seed Pictured [v. 5a, Jn. 8:56-58]

-Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

2. The Promise of A Singular Seed Preeminent

[v. 5b, Gal. 3:16-19]

-Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

3. The Power of A Saviour Promised [v. 6, Rm. 4:1-5]

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

III. THE DETAILS OF THE COVENANT [v. 7-21]

1. Legal preparation [v. 7-11]

2. Lengthy procedure [v. 12-16]

3. Lone Promisor [v. 17-21]
