I. NO MAN NATURALLY KNOWS WHAT WE ARE [v. 14]

1. We are Naturally Lost Sinners [Matthew 10:6, 18:11, Lk. 19:10, 2 Cor. 4:3]

-But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

-For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

-Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

-But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

2. We are Naturally Already Condemned [Mt. 12:37, Jn. 3:18, 2 Pt. 2:6]

-For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

- He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

- And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

3. We are Naturally Hopeless, Helpless & Without Strength [Eph. 2:12, Rm. 5:6]

-That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

- For when we were yet without strength

 

II. NO MAN NATURALLY KNOWS WHAT WE FACE [v. 11]

1. We Face a Holy God [1 Sm. 2:2, Is. 5:6, 1 Jn. 1:5]

-There is none holy as the LORD:

-But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.

-This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

2. We Face an Unchanging God [Mal. 3:6, 2 Tm. 2:13, Heb. 13:8, Jm. 1:17]

-For I am the LORD, I change not

-If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

- Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

-the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

3. We Face a Loving God [1 Co. 2:9, Rm. 5:8, 1 Jn. 4:8]

-But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

-He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

 

III. NO MAN NATURALLY KNOWS WHAT WE NEED [v. 7-14]

1. We Need a Mediator [1 Tm. 2:5]

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

2. We Need a Propitiation [Rm. 3:25, 1 Jn. 2:2, 4:10]

-Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

-And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

-Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

3. We Need an Advocate [1 Jn. 2:1]

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

4. We Need Jesus [Mt. 1:21, Acts 4:12]

- And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

-Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
