SEEING WHAT MOSES SAW

EXODUS 33:12-23

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. WHAT DID MOSES SEE?

1. Moses saw God’s Way [Ex. 33:12-13, Acts 7:33-32, 37, 44]

- When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled , and durst not behold.

- This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.

- Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.

2.  Moses saw God’s Glory [Ex. 33:18-23, Luke 9:26-32]

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings , he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

3. Moses “saw” God [Heb. 11:27]

-By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

II. WHY DID MOSES SEE?        Why did Moses see what others missed?

1. Moses had Faith in the Great I AM [Ex. 3:1-14, Jn. 8:58]

- Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

2. Moses had Faith to Forsake the Wrong [Heb. 11:24-27]

By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

3. Moses had Faith to Choose the Right [Heb. 11:28-29]

Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

III. WHAT DID MOSES FEEL?

1. Moses Felt a Holy Hatred for Sin [32:17-19, 25-28]

2. Moses Felt a Christlike Compassion for Sinners [Exodus 32:32, Rm. 9:3, 10:1, Galatians 3:13]

- For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

- Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

- Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

3. Moses Felt a Godly Gladness for God’s Mercy [Ps. 90:1, 11-17]

- A Prayer of Moses the man of God. LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

- Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants. O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
