BE THE PERSON GOD CAN HONOR

2 KINGS 1

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. TURNING FALLING INTO FAILURE [v. 1-8]

1. Ahaziah’s Fall [v. 1-2a]

2. Ahaziah’s Folly [v. 2b-4]

3. Ahaziah’s Failure [v. 5-8]

II. ARE YOU WISE OR OTHERWISE? [v. 9-15]

1. King’s Man meet God’s Man [v. 9-10]

2. Doubling Down with Foolishness [v. 11] – repeating the same behavior while expecting a different result

3. What God Honors [v. 12-15, John 5:22-24, Heb. 10:28-31]  Faith & humility

-For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

-He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

III. WHAT GOD KEEPS [v. 16-18]

1. God Keeps His Righteous Judgments [v. 16]

2. God Keeps His Word [v. 17, Romans 3:4 ]

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

3. God Keeps the Books [v. 18, Rev. 20:11-15]

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
