MATTHEW 6:30-34
Pastor Rick Jackson
I. THE PRIME DIRECTIVE [v. 33]
1. The Prime Directive is Purposeful “Seek” [v. 33,
Lk. 19:10, John 4:23]
Why doesn’t’ He
seek us? He has!
-For the Son of
man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
-But the hour
cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in
spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
2. The Prime
Directive is Personal “Seek ye”
3. The Prime
Directive is Prioritized “Seek ye first” [v. 33, Mark 8:36, Mt. 23:26]
-For what shall
it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
-Thou blind
Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the
outside of them may be clean also.
II. THE
PERSONAL DEITY
1. A Kingdom must
have a King (the kingdom of God’s King, by default, is God) [v. 33]
-the Magi
recognized this [Mt. 2:1-2] …there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying,
Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the
east, and are come to worship him.
-the prophet
Bard foretold this [Is. 9:6-7] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is
given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be
called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The
Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no
end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to
establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The
zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
-the Apostle
proclaimed this [1 Timothy 1:17] Now unto the King eternal, immortal,
invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2. A King must
have Subjects [Hebrews 12:9, 29]
-Furthermore we
have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence:
shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
-Wherefore we
receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may
serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
3. A King must
Rule [Matthew 2:6, Hebrews 2:8-9]
-And thou
Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda:
for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel
-Thou hast put
all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection
under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet
all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than
the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he
by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
III. THE
PRIORITY APPLIED [6:33]
1. His Word
Must Have Priority [Isaiah 34:16, John 14:15, 23, 15:10]
-Seek ye out of
the book of the Lord, and read:
-If ye love me,
keep my commandments.
-Jesus answered
and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will
love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
-If ye keep my
commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's
commandments, and abide in his love.
2. His Will
Must Have Priority [John 7:17]
If any man will
do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I
speak of myself.
3. His Way Must
Have Priority [Psalm 18:30, Isaiah 30:21, Prov. 3:5-7]
-As for God,
his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those
that trust in him.
-And thine ears
shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye
turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
-Trust in the
Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all
thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine
own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
