THANK GOD, THAT GOD, ISN’T FAIR

1 SAMUEL 23

Pastor Rick Jackson

Remember if we got from God what was fair we would all be in the lake of Fire.

 I. THE STRONG CHRISTIAN [v. 1-5]

1. The Strong Christian Desires to do Right [v. 1-2]

just because something sounds good doesn’t mean it’s God’s will- Paul’s 2nd missionary journey, giving all your money to the Red Cross]

2. The Strong Christian Seeks God’s Will [v. 2b-4]

1 Corinthians 4:19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

1 Corinthians 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 16:7 For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while ° with you, if the Lord permit.

James 4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will °, we shall live, and do this, or that.

3. The Strong Christian Does the Will of God [v. 5, Mt. 6:33]

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

II. THE WEAKNESS OF THE NATURAL MAN & THE CARNAL CHRISTIAN [v. 6-13]

1. Men are Full of Mischief [v. 6-9]

2. God is Full of Knowledge [v. 10-12]

3. The Godly Man Must Seek God’s Wisdom [v. 13, James 3:13-18]

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure , then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

III. THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD [v. 14-29, 1 Peter 4:19]

Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

1. The Faithfulness of God is Seen in Daily Mercies [v. 14, Lamentations 3:22-23, 31-32]

It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

For the Lord will not cast off for ever: But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

2. The Faithfulness of God is Seen in Godly Friends [v. 15-18, Proverbs 27:6]

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

3. The Faithfulness of God is Seen in the Deliverance of God [v. 19-29]
