2 CHR. 29:1-5
Pastor Rick Jackson
In these verses we find there was a great need for revival. Judah
needed revival. This is a lesson for our nation. This is a lesson for our churches.
This is a lesson for our homes. This is a lesson for our lives.
Someone says, “But wait, this is talking about the Jews.
This is talking about Israel and Judah. This is not for us.”
1 Cor. 10 says, “But with many of them God was not well
pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our
examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also
lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The
people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit
fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty
thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were
destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and
were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for
ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the
world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he
fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but
will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear
it. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”
I. THERE IS A NEED FOR REVIVAL WHEN WE HAVE TURNED OUR
BACKS TO GOD
1. There is a Need for Revival When We Have Turned From His
Way [v. 6a, Isaiah 53:6]
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one
to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all
2. There is a Need for Revival When We Have Turned from Him
[v. 6b, 30:9, John 6:66]
From that time many of his disciples went back , and walked
no more with him.
3. There is a Need for Revival When We Have Turned from His
House [v. 6c-7, 1 Timothy 3:15, 1 Peter 4:17]
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest
to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God,
the pillar and ground of the truth.
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house
of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey
not the gospel of God?
II. THERE IS A NEED FOR REVIVAL WHEN GOD TURNS OUR
CIRCUMSTANCES [v. 8-9]
1. There is a Need for Revival When God Turns Our Circumstances
to Trouble in God’s eyes [v. 8-9]
He removes His protecting hand to some degree, He removes
the hand of blessing, He allows trouble to find us
1 Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the
destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord
Jesus.
2. There is a Need for Revival When God Turns Our
Circumstances to Astonishment in Our Eyes [v. 8-9]
we’re astonished at the bad things happening to us
3. There is a Need for Revival When God Turns Our
Circumstances to Hissing in the Eyes of Others [[v. 8-9, Jer. 19:8]
And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every
one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the
plagues thereof.
III. THERE IS A REVIVAL, A REFRESHING WHEN THERE IS A TURNING
BACK TO GOD
1. There is Revival when There is Restoration of Purity [v.
4-5, 11, 15-16, 1 Jn. 1:9]
2. There is Revival when There is Rendering of Praise
[30:21, 26; Psalm 85:6]
Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice
in thee?
3. There is Revival when There is Renewing of Practice
[31:1, 10 cp. To 29:7]
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble
themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. –
2 Chr. 7:14
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and
they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. –
1 Cor. 10:11
