Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Pastor Rick Jackson
I. TO ISRAEL [I KINGS 8:56] Blessed be the LORD, that
hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised:
there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by
the hand of Moses his servant.
-Jeremiah 32:42 For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have
brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the
good that I have promised them.
-Jeremiah 33:14 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that
I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel
and to the house of Judah.
1. The Promise of a Saviour [Romans 1:1-4, 9:1-5] Paul, a
servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of
God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David
according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according
to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also
bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual
sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for
my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom
pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of
the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and
of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for
ever. Amen.
2. The Promise of a Sovereign [1 Kings 9:5, Is. 9:6] Then I
will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to
David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of
Israel.
3. The Promise of a Kingdom [1 Kings 9:5] Then I will
establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to
David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of
Israel.
II. TO THE CHURCH [2 Peter 1:4] Whereby are given unto
us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers
of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world
through lust.
1. The Promise of the Spirit [Ephesians 1:13] In whom ye
also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your
salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy
Spirit of promise,
2. The Promise of Eternal Life [1 John 2:25] And this is the
promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
-Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot
lie, promised before the world began;
3. The Promise of the Second Coming [Jn. 14:1-3]
-2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise,
as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that
any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
-2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise,
look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
III. TO THE LOST [Heb. 10:26-31] For if we sin
wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there
remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of
judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that
despised Moses law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much
sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden
under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant,
wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit
of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will
recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a
fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
1. The Promise of Justice [Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by
myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not
return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
-Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord ,
every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
-Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the
earth;
2. The Promise of Judgment [Rev. 20:11-15]
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from
whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for
them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were
opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead
were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to
their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell
delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man
according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.
This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of
life was cast into the lake of fire.
3. The Promise of Jesus [Mt. 11:27-30]
All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man
knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the
Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that
labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you,
and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto
your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
