ACTIONS and REACTIONS

LUKE 13:10-17

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. JESUS BEING JESUS

1. Teaching the Word [v. 10, 4:42-44]

And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. And he said unto them , I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

2. Tackling Satan [v. 11-13, 16; 1 John 3:8]

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

3. Rebuking Hypocrites [v. 15-16, 6:42]

Luke 6:42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

Luke 11:44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

Luke 12:56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

II. CHRISTIANS BEING RESPONSIVE

1. Faithful to the Service of God [v. 11, 1 Corinthians 4:2]

Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

2. Thankful to God [v. 12-13, 17:17] And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

3. Rejoicing in the Work of Christ [v. 17, 10:20]

Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Luke 19:37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

III. THE ADVERSARIES BEING HYPOCRITES

1. Indignant Without Cause [v. 14a, Matthew 21:15]

And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased,

Matthew 26:8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

2. Misrepresenting Without Care [v. 14b, John 8:33]

They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou , Ye shall be made free?

3. Ashamed Without Excuse [v. 17, 1 Peter 3:16]

Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

Romans 9:33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Romans 10:11-13 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
