Leaving

Bill Rice Ranch - First Light Devotionals

Esther 10:3 "For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed."

Do you love to leave? Maybe it comes from the many years of traveling, both as a child and now with my own family, but I love to leave! The truth is, we are all living a life where we are leaving one place or another. The last glimpse we get from the book of Esther about this man Mordecai is a fascinating epitaph: "seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed." We learn that the way you live determines the way you leave.

There will come a time when you make your departure from this earth. The question is not if you will leave; rather, the question is, what will you leave and how will you leave it? What you leave and how you leave it is determined by how you live. Mordecai left exactly the way he lived! He was doing the exact same thing in the palace that he was doing under persecution a few chapters before! "Seeking the wealth of his people." He was a man of courage, conviction, and integrity; and that is precisely how he left!

If you want to leave the right thing, you must live the right way. Living the right way begins now, specifically today and in the list of things you have on your to-do list right now. None of us know when we are going to leave, but we can make the most of the time we have right now. What do you want to leave? Well, how you live today will answer the question of what you leave when you leave. Take advantage of the time you've been given in order to prepare for when you leave!
