WHEN IGNORANCE SPEAKS TWICE

JOB 5-7

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE ADVICE OF ELIPHAZ [5:1-27]

Eliphaz knows of no sin in Job’s life but is convinced there must be unconfessed sin. Job was a sinner saved by grace but God says later Eliphaz was wrong about many things. Though a sinner, Job was not in this fix because of sin. Ultimately the righteous will prevail and the wicked suffer but Job is interested in the ultimate- he is concerned about the immediate!

1. “Ask Anybody & They Will Agree with Me” [v. 1-7, Romans 3:4]

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

2. “Seek God for Forgiveness” [v. 8-17, 1:5, 8, 42:7-9, I Jn 1:9]

3. “Do Right and All Your Problems will be Over” [v. 17-27, Matthew 5:45]

II. THE ANSWER TO ELIPHAZ [6:1-30]

1. “I Speak, No-one Really Listens” [v. 1-11]

2. “I Live With No Hope For This Life” [v. 12-16]

3. “I Suffer, Get No Sympathy” [v. 14-30]

III. THE QUESTIONS OF JOB [7:1-21]

1. The Meaning of Life [v. 1-11]

2. The Meanness of Life [v. 12-16]

3. The Madness of Life [v. 17-21]
