GETTING A CHARGE OUT OF LIFE [THE BLESSED MAN PART 1]

PSALM 1:1-3

Pastor Rick Jackson

If you get a new battery for your car, put it in place and as you prepare to connect the cables you stop and think, "Wait. I am a positive person. I don't dwell on the negative. I'll just hook up the cable to the positive post of the battery." ...and so that's what you do. When you get in the car to crank it, what will happen when you turn the key? That's right... absolutely nothing. The car needs to be connected to both the positive and negative posts to turn over the engine.

With that in mind let us first look at:

I. THE POSITIVE SIDE OF BEING NEGATIVE [v. 1]

A man is blessed, is really happy, if he does NOT:

1. Listen to the advice of ungodly (morally wrong person)

2. Linger in the lifestyle of the sinful

3. Lead others into sin by mocking God, His Word, and His people

II. THE POSITIVE SIDE OF BEING POSITIVE [v. 2]

A man is blessed if he does:

1. Find pleasure in the Word of God

(application of attitude--- a mental position with regard to a fact or state b: a feeling or emotion toward a fact or state)

2. Find pasture in the Word of God

(application of aptitude--- 1 a: inclination, tendency b: a natural ability : talent 2: capacity for learning 3: general suitability : aptness)

3. Finds plenty in the Word of God

(application of amplitude--- i.e., 1: extent of dignity, excellence, or splendor 2: the quality or state of being ample : fullness, abundance)

III. THE POSITIVE RESULTS OF BEING BLESSED [v. 3]

1. A Soul-saving Transplant

2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Psalm 107:35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings .
Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

2. A Fruit-bearing Productivity [Ps. 126:5-6]

3. A Life Worth Living

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
23:6-8 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left; That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them: But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.
24:14-15 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
