THREE WISE MEN

MATTHEW 2:1-12

Adapted by Pastor Rick Jackson from a tract by Oliver B. Greene

There are several myths about the wise men that can be dispelled with a simple reading of the scripture. They were not at the stable, they weren't necessarily limited to three. There are likewise many truths that can be gathered about them from the same texts. They spent a great deal of time and resources to find Jesus, they realized He was more than just a man, they obeyed the Lord's instructions in various matters, etc.

You can be wise this season too. It's true you won't be following a star to Bethlehem but the Bible reveals how to be wise.

I. THE FIRST WISE MAN: THE SAVED MAN!

1. HEARS THE WORD OF GOD [Mt. 7:24]

2. HEEDS THE WORD OF GOD [Mt. 7:24-25]

3. BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST [I Pt. 2:1-11]

II. THE SECOND WISE MAN: THE SOUL WINNER!

1. JESUS CAME TO SEEK AND TO SAVE [Lk. 19:10]

2. JESUS COMMISSIONED US TO DO LIKEWISE [Jn. 20:21-23]

3. JESUS COMMENDS THOSE THAT WIN SOULS AS WISE

-Ps. 126:5-6 Guarantees results,

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever

III. THE THIRD WISE MAN:THE UNDERSTANDING MAN [Dan. 12:9-13]

1. He has an understanding of the Past.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

2. He has an understanding of the Present

Colossians 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

3. He has an understanding of the future.

Ephesians 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
