II. THE TRINITY ANOINTS CHRISTIANS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. JESUS WAS ANOINTED BY THE FATHER WITH THE SPIRIT

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

2. JESUS SENT US AS THE FATHER HAD SENT HIM

John 20:21-22 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

3. JESUS HAS ANOINTED US WITH THE INDWELLING HOLY SPIRIT

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

III. THE TRINITY ASSURES CHRISTIANS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT [RM. 8]

1. HE IS THE SPIRIT OF ADOPTION [V. 15A]

Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons

2. HE IS THE SPIRIT OF INTIMACY [V. 15B]

Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

3. HE IS THE SPIRIT OF ASSURANCE [V. 16-25]

Galatians 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
