THE STRANGE CASE OF THE SYROPHENICIAN MOTHER

MARK 7:24-30

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE STRANGENESS OF THE SITUATION

[Mt. 15:21-26]

1. She Made the Wrong Approach [v. 21-23a, Mk. 7:26]

“a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation”

2. The Disciples Had the Wrong Attitude [v. 23b, Jude 22]

And of some have compassion, making a difference:

3. The Lord’s Strange Answers [v. 23-26]

II. THE STRATEGY OF THE SAVIOUR [Mt. 15:23-26]

The Saviour used this opportunity to guide her and to correct the disciples’ thinking.

1. The Lesson of Silence [v. 23, Joshua 7:10]

And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?

2. The Lesson of Sheep [v. 24, John 10:16]

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

3. The Lesson of Supply [v. 26, Philippians 4:19]

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

III. THE SECRET OF SATISFACTION [Mt. 15:21-28]

1. A Right Reason [v. 21-22, John 10:10]

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

2.  A Right Recognition [v. 23-25, John 3:16]

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

3. A Right Repetition [v. 26-28] “a puppy:--dog”
