Psalms 145:3    Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

 

I. HOW GREAT IS THE FATHER?

 

1. In His Holiness He is Greater than Our Heart [1 John 3:20, Jer. 17:9]

-For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

-The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

 

2. In His Omniscience He knows of None Greater [Heb. 6:13-20]

 

3. In His Omnipotence He is Greater than All [John 10:27-31]

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

 

II. HOW GREAT IS THE SAVIOUR?

1.  He is Greater than the Greatest of Men - Solomon [Lk. 11:31], Jonah [Lk. 11:32], Jacob [Jn. 4:12, 29], Abraham [Jn. 8:53], or Moses [Heb. 3:1-6]

- The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

-The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

- Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

-Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

- Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

2. He is Greater than the Angelic Host [Heb. 1:4-9]

 

3.  He is Greater than the Holiest of Locations - Temple [Mt. 12:6] Tabernacle [Heb. 9:6-14]

- But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

 

 III. HOW GREAT IS THE SPIRIT?

 

1. He Makes Mortal Men Great [Lk. 1:15, 7:28]

- For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

- For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist

 

2. He is Greater than the World, the Flesh & the Devil [1 Jn. 4:4]

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

 

3. He is the Great Witness [1 Jn. 5:9-10, Rm. 8:16]

- If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

- The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God

 

Psalm 48:1 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

Psalm 138:5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.

Psalm 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.
