I. THE
BLESSED MAN
1. Saved
& Separated [v. 1, 2 Cor. 6:14-18]
Be ye not
unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with
darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that
believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with
idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell
in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my
people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord,
and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father
unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
2. Saved
& Saturated [v. 2, 2 Cor. 6:1-10]
WE then, as
workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of
God in vain. (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the
day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time;
behold, now is the day of salvation.) Giving no offence in any thing, that the
ministry be not blamed: But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers
of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In
stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; By
pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by
love unfeigned, By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of
righteousness on the right hand and on the left, By honour and dishonour, by
evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; As unknown, and yet
well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; As
sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having
nothing, and yet possessing all things.
3. Saved
& Stablished [v. 3, Colossians 2:7]
Rooted and
built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding
therein with thanksgiving.
II. THE
UNGODLY MAN
1. Not Stable [v. 4, James 1:8, 2 Peter 2:14,
3:16]
-A double
minded man is unstable in all his ways.
-Having eyes
full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an
heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
-As also in
all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things
hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as
they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
2. Not Standing [v. 5, Psalm 5:5, Mt. 12:25]
-The foolish
shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
- And Jesus
knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself
is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall
not stand:
3. Not Saved [v. 6, Jn. 3:16-18]
For God so
loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son
into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be
saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God.
III. THE
SIMPLE DIFFERENCE
1. The God
of the Book [v. 1, 4-6]
2. The Book
of God [v. 2]
3. The Faith
of the Book [Jude 3, Heb. 4:2]
- Beloved,
when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was
needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
- For unto
us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not
profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
