ACTS 9
Pastor Rick Jackson
I. WHEN THE LOST FACE GOD IN THIS LIFE
1. The Faith Response [Acts 9:1-6]
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter
against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of
him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way,
whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And
as he journeyed , he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about
him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying
unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord?
And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to
kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt
thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city,
and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
2. The Foolish Response [Acts 24:24-25]
And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife
Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the
faith in Christ. And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance , and judgment
to come , Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a
convenient season, I will call for thee.
3. The Fear Response [Rev. 6:15-17]
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich
men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every
free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And
said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him
that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day
of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and
the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters,
and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death.
II. WHEN THE SAVED FACE GOD IN THIS LIFE
1. The Repentant Response [Job 40:1-5, 42:1-6]
Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, Shall he that
contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him
answer it. Then Job answered the LORD, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall
I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Once have I spoken; but I
will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
Then Job answered the LORD, and said, I know that thou canst
do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that
hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood
not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I
will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. I have heard of
thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor
myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
2. The Responsive Response [Is. 6:1-8]
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord
sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his
face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one
cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole
earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him
that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! for I
am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a
people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which
he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth,
and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and
thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send,
and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
3. The Reverent
Response [Rev. 1:9-17]
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in
tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle
that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus
Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great
voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last:
and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches
which are in Asia… And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in
the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with
a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His
head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as
a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a
furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right
hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his
countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell
at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear
not; I am the first and the last:
III. WHEN FACING GOD OCCURS AFTER THIS LIFE
1. Ashamed at His Coming [1 John 2:28]
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall
appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
2. Appear at His Seat [2 Corinthians 5:10]
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ;
that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he
hath done, whether it be good or bad.
3. Stand at His Throne [Rev. 20:11-15]
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from
whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for
them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were
opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were
judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their
works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell
delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man
according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.
This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of
life was cast into the lake of fire.
