LEARNING TO LISTEN TO JESUS

LUKE 14

Pastor Rick Jackson

In Luke 13 we were “LEARNING TO LEAN ON JESUS” but in this chapter the emphasis for us is “LEARNING TO LISTEN TO JESUS.”

I. THE LESSONS “THEY” MISSED [v. 1-6]

1. “They” Watched Him Critically [v. 1-2, Proverbs 15:3]

The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

2. “They” Held Their Peace [v. 3-4, 20:26]

And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

3. “They” Could Not Answer [v. 5-6, Romans 3:19]

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

II. THE LESSONS OF THE THREE FEASTS [v. 7-24]

1. There is No Excuse to Exalt Yourself [v. 7-11, 1 Cor. 4:1-5]

Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

2. There is No Excuse to Not Bless Others [v. 12-14]

3. There is No Excuse to Miss God’s Great Supper [v. 15-24]

III. THE LESSONS OF DISCIPLESHIP [v. 25-35]

1. The Cost [v. 25-27]

2. The Count [v. 28-33]

3. The Cast [v. 34-35]
