BUT WHERE ARE THE NINE?

Luke 17:11-19

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE REQUEST OF THE LEPERS

1. It Was a Request of Desperation [v. 11-12, Romans 5:6]

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

2. It Was a Request of Designation [v. 13, Luke 18:13]

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

3. It Was a Request of Determination [v. 14, John 2] “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”

II. THE REALIZATION OF THE SAMARITAN

1. God Had Healed Him [v. 15]

2. Jesus is God [v. 16, Acts 9:5-6]

And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?

3. He Put His Faith in Christ [v. 19, Eph. 2:8-9]

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

III. THE REACTION OF THE SAVIOUR

1. He Noted the Absence of the Others [v. 17]

2. He Noted the Actions of the Samaritan [v. 18]

3. He Noted the Activity of Faith [v. 19]

9:21-22 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. [salvation of the body]

10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. [life]

14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. [life]

16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. [lifetime]

18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. [soul]

19:25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? [soul]
