WHEN IS IT ENOUGH , OR WHAT IS ENOUGH?

2 CHRONICLES 15-16

Pastor Rick Jackson

When have we served the Lord enough? When have we tried to live right for enough time? When have we been faithful enough? Here in 2 Chronicles we find a man that seemed to think that he had served God long enough. That he had trusted God long enough. Let us see how that worked out for him and his people.

I. GOD WILL BLESS [15:1-7]

1. People [v. 1-2, Psalm 29:11]

The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.

2. Faith [v. 3-4, Rom. 10:17, Hebrews 10:23, 11:6]

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

3. Righteousness [v. 5-7, Proverbs 14:34]

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

II. GOD EXPECTS [15:8-16]

1. People to Hear His Word [v. 8a, James 1:21]

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

2. People to Heed His Word [v. 8b, James 1:22, Joshua 22:5]

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

3. People to Hold His Word [v. 9-16, Acts 5:20, Philippians 2:16]

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

III. GOD KNOWS [15:17-19, 16:1-14]

1. Our Hearts [15:17-19, Psalm 7:9]

Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

Proverbs 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

2. Our Frame [16:1-10, Psalm 103:14]

For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

3. Our End [16:11-14, 1 Peter 4:17]

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
